My Chemical Romance Black Parade Hits No. 1 After 20 Years

Twenty years after it first came out, The Black Parade is finally a No. 1 album. My Chemical Romance’s third album has topped the Billboard 200 for the first time, thanks to a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue that sent fans back to the record shops in huge numbers.

The album jumps from No. 139 to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated November 7, 2026, which was posted in full on November 3. It is the band’s first No. 1 album in a career of nearly 25 years, and the longest wait for a No. 1 in the chart’s history.

The numbers behind the No. 1

According to Luminate data reported by Billboard, The Black Parade (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) earned 78,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the tracking week ending October 29. That is a 653 percent jump on the previous week.

Physical sales did most of the work. Pure album sales made up 68,000 of the week’s units, up 2,082 percent, and vinyl alone sold 42,000 copies, the best vinyl week of the band’s career. The reissue was released in more than 20 physical versions across vinyl, CD and cassette, including signed editions, and all versions count together for chart purposes.

The 139-1 leap is the biggest jump to No. 1 since Taylor Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) climbed 157-1 in October 2021, also on the back of signed physical editions.

Two chart records in one week

Reaching No. 1 twenty years after release is now the longest wait ever for an album to top the Billboard 200. It beats the previous record of 15 years and nine months, set by Toby Keith’s 35 Biggest Hits after his death in 2024.

The album also gave My Chemical Romance their first No. 1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart, on the chart dated October 30, 2026. When the album first came out in 2006, it debuted and peaked at No. 2 in the United States, kept off the top spot by the Hannah Montana soundtrack, and at No. 2 in the U.K. behind Robbie Williams’ Rudebox.

My Chemical Romance are the third act in 2026 to wait at least 10 years from their first Billboard 200 appearance to a first No. 1.

What is in the 20th anniversary reissue?

The deluxe edition was released on October 23, 2026, through Reprise Records, exactly 20 years after the original album came out on October 23, 2006. It includes the original 13-track album alongside six bonus tracks, bringing together previously scattered B-sides and live recordings from the band’s 2007 show at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The Black Parade was the album that turned My Chemical Romance from an emo band into a rock-opera act. It produced their biggest hit, “Welcome to the Black Parade,” which reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2007 and spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart.

How the band reacted

Not long after the news broke on Sunday, November 1, the band reacted on social media. They reshared Billboard’s post to their Instagram Stories and soundtracked it with Miley Cyrus’ 2013 hit “Wrecking Ball.”

When the anniversary edition was announced, the band said in a joint statement: “Twenty years ago, we wrote what would become The Black Parade, our third record and the follow up to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.”

The band have been celebrating the anniversary on tour since July 2025, and the trek is due to wrap on November 22 in Indonesia. You can read Billboard’s chart report on the reissue for the full breakdown of the week’s sales.

Who else was on the chart?

The Black Parade beat Olivia Rodrigo’s new album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love, which sits at No. 2 on the same chart. Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem is at No. 3 and Ella Langley’s Dandelion at No. 4.

Rodrigo took the result in good spirits. When midweek projections put My Chemical Romance ahead by about 1,000 sales, she shared a clip from their Citi Field concert on her Instagram story. Rolling Stone’s report on the chart-topper has more on the week’s chart battle.

Why this No. 1 matters

Chart-toppers usually belong to new releases. A 20-year-old album reaching No. 1 on the strength of a reissue is rare, and it says a lot about how The Black Parade has grown since 2006. The album was a hit at the time, but it has become something bigger since: a defining record for a generation of rock fans, and one of the most loved albums of the 2000s.

It is also the latest reissue to make a splash in the top 10 this year, following The Beatles’ Rubber Soul, which re-entered at No. 4 on the October 17 chart. For My Chemical Romance, though, this one is personal. They waited two decades for it, and they got there with the same album that made them famous in the first place.
